Choosing this week’s member of the Punch in the Face List was tough. With the Jerry Sandusky trial starting, the government continuing to waste taxpayer dollars by pursuing a perjury conviction of Roger Clemens, and the obvious fix of the Manny Pacquiao/Timothy Bradley fight there are a ton of sonavabitches who deserve to get cracked in the teeth. In saying that, I’m going to ignore the obvious and punch someone who is also deserving; Maurice Jones-Drew.
NFL mini-camps began Tuesday and the last season’s leading rusher is disgruntled and is not reporting to camp. Now I too be would pretty disgruntled if I was forced to spend half of the year in Jacksonville (talk about a sewer of a city), but that’s not the reason he’s holding out. He’s holding out for money. Jones is currently in the fourth year of a five-year deal, and doesn’t feel his $4.65 million is suitable for a player of his stature.
I understand MJD isn’t the only player who has pulled a stunt like this and that players have been pulling this bullshit for years. Even so, I’m making an example out of Jones-Drew. I’m sick and tired of a player signing a contract only to want to negate it after a few seasons because another player signed a bigger contract. MJD is the asshole who signed the five-year deal, he needs to man up an honor it, not hold out like a spoiled brat because he doesn’t feel he’s being treated fairly. I’m sick and tired of players comparing their salaries to each other like it’s a big dick contest. These assholes are making more money in one season than 90% of this country will make in their lifetime. Instead of holding your talent hostage for the all mighty dollar try and appreciate what you have. It’s shit like this that makes me hate sports.
Be a man and honor your contract Jones-Drew. You might not make as much as Chris Johnson, but at least you’re the richest man in Jacksonville.
Cry Meter: This might be my toughest challenge because MJD is quick and is used to getting hit. Honestly I might not even land my shot. I’m have to do him dirty and sweep his leg, then connect to his jaw. As for tears, I don’t have high hopes. 0 out of 10 tears
