I am so sick of hearing about “Bounty-Gate” (SIDEBAR:  How come every time there’s a scandal it must be a “GATE”?  I understand it’s all named after Watergate, but the reason Watergate was called Watergate.  It’s because it went down at the Watergate Building!  I really with people would stop bastardizing “ Gate”).

It’s nothing but scandal the media found out about, and ran with.   Sure, Gregg Williams is a lowlife, and Sean Peyton is a liar, but if it wasn’t for the media blowing it out of proportion it would have been swept under the rug.  What Williams did as the Saints defensive coordinator happens in every locker room in the NFL (crushing hits always get a bonus).  Don’t kid yourself.  The only difference is this blockhead left a paper trail.

Now the league has suspended Jonathan Vilma for the entire 2012 season and three other players for half the season.  Let me ask you, when is this shit going to stop?  Vilma is missing a season because “sources” said he offered a $10,000 bonus for an injury.  I’ve always had the mindset that “sources” equal hearsay.  Also, no one was hurt as a result of what the “sources” claim.  Unless there was solid proof that Vilma and other players participated in an “injury fund”, all the league is doing is smearing their name.

While there’s no doubt William’s bounties existed, did it result in a major injury to a player?  Correct me if I’m wrong, but it didn’t.  The closest play was a hit on Kurt Warner and Warner himself said there was nothing dirty about the hit!  This is the NFL hell-bent on making an example of the Saints so it won’t happen again.  The same clowns who believe this will work believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy.  All this will do is make teams be more careful.

If anyone should be suspended it should be the cowards who blew the whistle.  What happens in locker rooms should stay there.  To resort to a third grade argument, no one likes tattletales (unless it’s the name of a strip bar).  People need to keep their mouth shut and mind their own business.  As much as us fans love our teams and athletes, there people are no angels, and there’s a lot of dealings behind closed doors that we don’t know about.  It should stay that way.

I’m sure I’m in the minority here, but I want to know your thoughts.  Email me at Jay@thesportsriot.net and vent.  Also follow us on Twitter @TheSportsRiot and Facebook at The Sports Riot!  You won’t be disappointed.
